The league’s most prominent newcomer returns to the floor on Wednesday night.
Bronny James, the Lakers’ newly-minted second-round selection (and son of LeBron James), is slated to take the court for the second time as a professional, this time facing off against the Heat in the thick San Francisco heat.
This year’s earliest iteration of NBA Summer League has been a compelling watch thus far. Sin City still beckons for the majority of Summer League talents, but the California Classic has been a solid showcase of skills, with a number of players — including Miami first-rounder Kel’el Ware — drawing praise for their performances.
James is on the other end of the spectrum. His display in his maiden game as a professional was far from ideal. He scored four points on 2-of-9 shooting, adding two rebounds, two assists and one steal in 21 minutes of action.

Things got weird during what appeared to be his second game, with Los Angeles waiting until just before the opening whistle to rule James out with a sore knee.
All told, James’ first two days as a professional have been a challenge.
Rome wasn’t built in a day, however. Shaky offerings are common under the glare of the West Coast sun, and there’s always another game to be had. In this case, it comes in the form of a duel with Ware and the Heat.

End of first quarter: Lakers 21, Heat 21
7:23 p.m.: Hasn’t been the most prolific display for James today. The same can’t be said about Knecht, who is 2-for-3 from three and already has 10 points in this one.
7:17 p.m.: Steady stream of Alondes Williams today. The Wake Forest product has came to play, constantly finding butter with his shot attempts. He’s got eight points in seven minutes. And he’s bringing the Heat ever so slightly closer to their California adversary.
7:16 p.m.: James tumbles to the hardwood as he records his first turnover of the contest. He’ll stroll to the bench after his giveaway.
7:15 p.m.: Lots of off-ball play for James early.
7:11 p.m.: Decent screen navigation by James early. Defense is his calling call, after all. Did get displaced as Bryson Warren sank a mid-range jumper over his outstretched grasp, however.
7:08 p.m.: Reverse layup falls for James as he opens his scoring day with a basket in transition.
