Can we call Logan Paul, KSI boxers? The entertainer or professional fighter debate on Fightin’ Words

Influencer boxing will take center stage at the Manchester Arena on October 14 when Logan Paul battles Dillon Danis on the KSI vs. Tommy Fury undercard. Both of these bouts will be streamed on DAZN PPV.

Paul, a YouTuber, went the distance with Floyd Mayweather in a 2021 exhibition, whereas MMA fighter Dillon Danis hasn’t fought since 2019. The 30-year-old Danis has attempted to play mind games in the lead-up to the fight, posting pictures of his opponent’s fiancée all over social media.

Danis has also backed out of fights in the past, as he was supposed to face KSI at the beginning of the year. He has focused on selling this fight, but will he show up when it matters the most? If he does show up and wins, would it be a massive upset?

It takes guts to get in the ring at any level. Can we classify Paul, Danis, and KSI as professional fighters? Many see them as entertainers, putting on a show for a demographic that wants to be entertained. Money and attention make it easy for novices to enter boxing, which is not something that happens in either the NBA or football.

On the latest Fightin’ Words, The Sporting News’ Andreas HaleTom Gray, and Carlan Gay contemplate if influencers in boxing can be classified as boxers. They also discuss the following topics:

  • Predicting the outcome of KSI vs. Tommy Fury
  • Debate who has the edge: Logan Paul or Dillon Danis
  • Running down the entire Misfits undercard
  • Tom’s thoughts on tag team boxing
