How to watch J.J. McCarthy’s pro day: Time, TV channel & what to expect in Michigan QB’s NFL Draft workout

There are no shortage of high-end quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft, with USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye all projected to be high picks. But few quarterbacks are drawing as much buzz these days as J.J. McCarthy.

Since the Combine, a slew of teams — including the Vikings, Patriots, Giants and Broncos — have had their names tied to McCarthy.

The Michigan quarterback’s NFL future is somewhat of a polarizing topic, with the NFL Draft looming five weeks away. McCarthy, a former five-star recruit, started the last two years at Michigan and led the Wolverines to a 27-1 record, highlighted by a national championship this past season.

But several are hesitant to credit McCarthy, especially amid Michigan’s run-first approach and stalwart defense. Where does that leave him at the next level, where more burdens are likely to be placed upon his shoulders?

We’ll get more answers at Michigan’s Pro Day, which is slated for Friday, March 22. The Sporting News has you covered with a complete rundown on J.J. McCarthy’s Pro Day.

When is J.J. McCarthy’s Pro Day?

  • Date: Friday, March 22
  • Time: TBA

Michigan’s Pro Day is slated for Friday, March 22. The Wolverines have a slew of players slated to participate; no surprise, considering they set a new NFL Combine record with 18 invites to this year’s event. At the moment, it is unclear when exactly McCarthy’s workout will take place.

What to watch from J.J. McCarthy during his Pro Day

Of the top four quarterbacks in this year’s NFL Draft, McCarthy was the only one to throw at the NFL Combine. Teams will get a second look at McCarthy’s arm talent and ability at Michigan’s Pro Day, where — unlike the Combine — he will throw to receivers who he is familiar with.

Some have expressed concern that McCarthy has certain mechanical flaws when throwing to the left sideline on throws down the field; that will be an area of note to observe during his Pro Day, especially as he throws to receives with whom he already has a rapport.

Few players are drawing as much buzz right now than McCarthy. But where will he land, and how early will he go?

The Giants, currently holding the No. 6 overall pick, are one team to monitor. According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, some league sources believe that McCarthy is “the player the Giants want.”

The Vikings, who now own picks at No. 11 and No. 23 after a trade with the Texans, are in need of a quarterback after Kirk Cousins departed for the Falcons in free agency. Per ESPN’s Matt Miller, there is “considerable buzz” that Minnesota would trade up for a quarterback.

The Broncos (pick No. 12) and the Patriots (No. 3) have also been tied to McCarthy in recent weeks.
