NASCAR at Bristol live race results, updates, highlights from Bass Pro Shops Night Race

The Last Colosseum fuses beauty with carnage, oscillating between beautiful oasis and hellish terrain for all drivers who wade its hallowed walls. So what better place to hold the final race of the Cup Series Round of 12, where drivers sitting on the equator will be looking to etch their names into the lights?

Bubba Wallace, Michael McDowell, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and — surprisingly enough — regular season champion Martin Truex Jr. all find themselves on the outside looking in with one race left in the round. None of the four have achieved all that much success at Bristol — all four have combined for a grand total of five top-five finishes at the course in their careers.

Debris hangs around the track like a shadow. The wrecks are plentiful, leaving chunks of metal lying about the terrain like decaying pears on a fall day.

And yet, the opportunity for glory remains. For any of these four drivers, a win would represent the greatest of comebacks. Joy to one is heartbreak to the others. The beauty of stock car racing on display. All while under the lights.
