Portugal schedule for 2023 fixtures, matches
Portugal scored 10 times in three days without reply to start their calendar year, with Ronaldo scoring twice on each occasion in emphatic wins over Liechtenstein and Luxembourg as part of the team’s first matches since their surprise defeat to Morocco in the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup
It would require a series of upsets in the group for Portugal to fail to reach the finals automatically by finishing in the top two in the standings.

Cristiano Ronaldo stats, goals for Portugal
Before the September qualifiers, Ronaldo had 123 goals for Portugal – making him the top scorer of all time in international football.
At that stage, generational rival Lionel Messi was on 103 for Argentina, closing in on the second-placed record of 109, held by Iran’s Ali Daei.
Ronaldo scored his first Portugal goal on his eighth international appearance, finding the net on home soil against Greece at Euro 2004.
He marked his 200th appearance by scoring the only goal of the game in Iceland in June and will have been pleased to see Luxembourg–- the nation he has been most prolific against, scoring 11 times – in the group.
Next up for Ronaldo is a game against Slovakia in Bratislava on September 8 before another meeting with Luxembourg in Portugal on September 11.
