Shamil Musaev proven Russia’s scariest welterweight as he wins undefeated PFL title showdown & $1 million

In what many said was the best fight on the 2024 PFL Championships card, Sanda kickboxing expert Shamil ‘The Silent Assassin’ Musaev never looked in real danger as he marched to a Terminator-like demolition of 17-0 Magomed Umalatov.

Shamil not only out-struck the fighter from the Caucasus, he out-wrestled Umalatov too, taking him down and avoiding his butt hitting the mat himself.

Magomed wobbled due to eating strikes on the feet in every round but by the time the third rolled around he could take no more. When Musaev led with a straight right but closed the door coming around the guard with a powerful left hook, Umalatov’s head movement led him right into the path of the second punch.

He dropped like a sack of potatoes, turned to the turtle position, and could only cover his head while eating a few punches before the referee stepped in.

Shamil Musaev came to the PFL just this year after fighting his whole career in Russia and Poland, but winning four straight bouts against variously high profile opponents has now made him widely recognizable by MMA fans in the West.

As a deadly knockout artist he is quite promotable, but the intelligence, process, and well-rounded nature of his game are such that he would not be out of place with any of the best welterweights in the world necessarily.

He will be the favorite to win the $1 million championship again next season if he returns, no doubt, and has several years ahead of him at the age of 30, but if the PFL cannot keep Musaev then there is no doubt that other promotions will come knocking.
