Texas A&M and Tennessee are listed as one of the most overhyped and overrated teams in the past decade

CBS Sports made a list of the most overhyped and overrated teams in the country over the past 10 years, and several SEC teams made this list, including Texas, Florida, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Tennessee.

The Aggies ended up No. 1 on the list mainly because they’ve had three head coaches in 10 years, and none to this point have gone to the College Football Playoff, nor have they won an SEC title or national championship, despite having one year the No. 1 recruiting class in the country under former head coach Jim Fisher. There were some bright spots along the way for the Aggies, like defeating Alabama twice under Fisher and LSU, and going 7-1 to start the 2024 season.

Yet despite that, they ended 8-5 and once again on the outside looking in. They are also under .500 when playing the top 25, 17-26, but their overall record this decade is a respectable 77-48.

Still, with all the money this program has, you’d think they’d at least have one SEC title under its belt, but somehow, they manage to underachieve every year. Maybe the next 10 years will be different. 

No. 10 on this list is Tennessee. Now that might come as a shock, considering the success the Vols have had recently, but that was recently under Josh Heupel. Before his arrival, the Vols hadn’t beaten Alabama in almost 20 years (since Nick Saban’s arrival in Tuscaloosa) and hadn’t had an SEC Championship or National Championship since 1998. 

The main issue the Vols have had is poor coaching hires. Their record in the past decade against the top 25 is 18-29, and their overall record in the past 10 years is 75-50.

Since Heupel’s arrival, the Vols have been better to his credit, but it took them a long time to get to this point of even being relevant again.
