‘The fight is the party’: Focused Mike Tyson looks sharp, ready to put on a show in Jake Paul boxing fight

At 58, many have scoffed at the fact that Mike Tyson will return to the ring to face 27-year-old Jake Paul on November 15. However, “Iron Mike” is ready to prove age is just a number when he competes at AT&T Stadium.

Tyson competes in his first pro fight since 2005, when he quit on the stool against Kevin McBride. After losing his love for the sport, the former undisputed heavyweight champion managed to find it again. That drive to compete is still there, and he will look to unleash the beast against Paul.

The two were supposed to fight in the summer. However, Tyson suffered an ulcer flare-up, which left him hospitalized. Many boxing fans suspected the fight would be canceled and forgotten about. However, Tyson was determined to continue and it was rebooked for November.

Tyson is ready to reclaim his kingdom against one of the most popular influencers in the world.

“I’m tougher than I believed I was,” Tyson said during open workout. “When I agreed to this fight, I’m like, what the f— am I thinking? I finished the process. The fight is the party, all the hard work is done.”

Though he hasn’t fought professionally since 2005, he returned to the ring in 2020 to face Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition. On that fight night, where the two went the distance, Paul knocked out Nate Robinson. Paul went on to compete against various MMA fighters and accomplished boxers.

During Tuesday’s open workouts, he swung like the Tyson of old. Tyson dug into the body of his mit man, landing a nasty uppercut following an angle change. Tyson barely broke a sweat as he forced his man to the corner.

The last thing a knockout artist loses is his power. Though he is a bit older and slower, Tyson always had that beast inside him, ready to come out. Once thought dead, Tyson is ready to unleash “Iron Mike” on fight night.

Over 80,000 fans are expected at AT&T Stadium, and millions could watch the fight on Netflix. Tyson’s family will be watching, including his son Amir, who will provide commentary for the fight.

Mike sent a message to Amir, his family, and the world as his session ended.

“I never thought in a million years I’d be fighting,” Tyson said. “Family is everything. To my children, I’m nobody. That night (Friday), they’ll find out their father is very special.”
