Timberwolves’ $9 million lockdown guard predicted to be dealt in trade with Nets

The Minnesota Timberwolves were one of the surprise teams last season.

They reached the Western Conference Finals after sweeping the Phoenix Suns in the first round and knocking out the Denver Nuggets, the 2023 champions who were going for a repeat. The Timberwolves lost to the Dallas Mavericks, who went on to face Boston in the NBA Finals.

This season, the Timberwolves are having a hard time establishing themselves. They have a record of 8-10 and are 12th in the West. Their star, Anthony Edwards, recently called out his team, referring to them as “soft.”

Minnesota traded Karl-Anthony Towns during the offseason in a deal with the New York Knicks. At this point, their decision to move the four-time All-Star is questionable. The Timberwolves need to make some adjustments if they want to save their season and remain a contender in the West.

FanSided proposed a deal to help Minnesota right the ship. In a trade with the Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota gives up Leonard Miller, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and multiple second-round picks in exchange for Cam Thomas and Shake Milton. The Timberwolves receive a high-scoring guard that is averaging 24.7 points. As far as the addition of Milton, he can provide some offense and depth. When his number is called, chances are he will be ready.

The Timberwolves have a shot at acquiring Thomas, but they have competition. The Milwaukee Bucks are trying to climb the East, and the 23-year-old guard could put them over the top. If Minnesota wants to boost their offense and give Edwards some help, Thomas is an option worth considering. Brooklyn will be willing trade partners, as several players, including their leading scorer, are available in any potential trades.

Minnesota wants to keep Edwards happy, and adding another scorer is the way to go.
