UFC 293 live fight updates, results, highlights from Israel Adesanya vs. Sean Strickland in Australia

Israel Adesanya continues his pursuit to surpass Anderson Silva’s record for middleweight title fight wins when he defends his title against Sean Strickland at UFC 293 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Adesanya is currently second all-time in middleweight title fight wins with eight while Silva stands tall at 11. He’s made it clear that he hopes to surpass his idol but will need to turn back a hungry opponent.

“The Last Stylebender” was originally penciled in to face top contender Dricus Du Plessis for his next defense but with his rival unable to compete, Adesanya wanted to remain on the card. In Du Plessis’ place steps in Strickland, who is currently riding a two-fight winning streak and is coming off of a second-round finish of Abusupiyan Magomedov.

The #5 ranked Strickland is a massive underdog against one of the all-time great middleweights but hopes to find his name alongside the likes of Holly Holm and Matt Serra when it comes to the biggest title fight upsets in UFC history.

Adesanya recently reclaimed his middleweight title in devastating fashion when he knocked out longtime rival Alex Pereira in the second round of UFC 287 in April. One of the most popular fighters in the UFC is also one of the most active with eight fights since March 2020. He’ll have to be careful not to look past Strickland and take care of business if he hopes to catch Silva as the greatest middleweight in the history of the sport.
