UFC 294 PPV price: How much does it cost to watch Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski 2 on ESPN?

It is hard to craft a specific game plan for an opponent on 10 days’ notice. Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski, familiar with one another, are ready to test that theory when the former defends the UFC lightweight title against Volkanovski at UFC 294 on October 21. The fight takes place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Makhachev defended the belt against Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion, at UFC 284. Volkanovski had an entire fight camp to prepare for Makhachev but lost in an exciting affair. This time he replaces Charles Oliveira, who suffered a nasty cut to his eye during training camp. When he got the call to fight, Volkanovski weighed 180 pounds and must move to 155 in just a few days. He knows that if he loses, he may never get another opportunity like this again.

“I believe I finish him,” Volkanovski said on The MMA Hour. “I think you’re gonna see probably one of the most dangerous Volkanovskis you’ve ever seen, just purely because I can’t afford to do anything else. Stuff leaving it to the judges. Stuff any of that. Let’s just go out there and really set a statement. Go and knock him out? That’s going be absolutely mind-blowing for the world to see.”

The 31-year-old Makhachev last fought when he faced Volkanovski. A champion since October 2022, the Russian is a former Sambo gold medalist with 11 wins via submission, which he tried to do against Volkanovski. Makhachev is thankful Volkanovski is stepping in but gave him a warning heading into fight night.

“Respect for taking this fight on short notice, Alex, but don’t use it as an excuse after the fight,” Makhachev wrote on social media.
