UFC 294 time difference from Abu Dhabi to ET, PT for Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski 2
On about ten days’ notice, Alexander Volkanovski made weight for his upcoming UFC lightweight title fight against champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 294 on October 21. UFC 294 is in Abu Dhabi and airs on ESPN+ PPV.
Volkanovski is the current UFC featherweight champion, who weighed around 180 pounds when he got the call to replace Charles Oliveira, who injured himself while training. The Aussie fought Makhachev in February, losing to the Russian in a close contest. Going five rounds, Volkanovski avoided getting submitted and worked past Makhachev’s ground and pound. This time at 155, “The Great” hopes to finish the fight quickly.
“I want a better ending to this story. I want to finish him. I really want to go out there, and I think that’s my best bet,” Volkanovski told TNT Sports. “So let’s go and take it. I could go five rounds. I don’t want to test the cardio. Let’s not test it. Let’s go out there and finish him anyway.”
Makhachev has not fought since the Volkanovski fight. The 31-year-old believes Volkanovski’s efforts will still result in a loss. He doesn’t believe his opponent’s skills will give him an advantage and thinks Volkanvoski is just here for a payday.

“Everybody knows what you need: just money,” Makhachev said at the UFC 294 press conference via MMA Junkie. “That’s it… You have to say thanks to me. I can choose any other opponent. We have (Mateusz) Gamrot, we have (Dustin) Poirier, everybody ready for this fight for the belt, but I give you second time chance. Say thank you – that’s it.”
