What channel is Cardinals vs. Reds on today? Time, TV schedule, live stream for MLB Friday Night Baseball game

If someone was told earlier this year that a September series between the Cardinals and Reds would feature only one team battling for a postseason berth, it wouldn’t have come as any kind of surprise. That the Reds are contenders and the Cardinals aren’t certainly does count as a surprise.

Cincinnati rode a dominant month of June into contention, and while winning the NL Central now seems far-fetched, a wild card spot is still well within the Reds’ grasp. A weekend series against St. Louis, beginning Friday night, could go a long way to determining whether Cincinnati’s season extends past Oct. 1.

David Bell will have standout rookie Andrew Abbott on the hill facing young Cardinals starter Drew Rom, who has struggled through his first three major league starts. The Reds are still without one of their many talented rookies, Matt McLain, but recent call-ups Christian Encarnacion-Strand and Noelvi Marte have done well to keep the momentum going.

The Cardinals find themselves in an unfamiliar position at this stage of the season: playing spoiler. With elimination almost certainly approaching, St. Louis is simply trying to build momentum heading into 2024. The recent hot hitting by Jordan Walker has been one step in that direction, and Walker will try to make Reds pitching his next victim.
