Where is the 2024 NHL Draft?

The 2024 NHL Draft will be held at the Las Vegas Sphere, becoming the first event live televised from the $2.8 billion arena.

“The NHL is proud to bring the first sports event and the first live television broadcast to Sphere,” NHL senior executive vice president and chief content officer Steve Mayer said in the league’s announcement in May.

“Together with the amazing team at Sphere, we plan to deliver an NHL Draft like no other, introducing the bright future of hockey in an innovative and exhilarating setting.”

The NHL beat out other pro sports leagues like the NFL, NBA and MLB to become the first to host their draft at the innovative venue.

The Sphere only holds 18,600 seats, which makes it the perfect location for a league like the NHL.

For example, the NFL reported that it had a record-breaking 700,000 people attend its outdoor draft in Detroit this past April.

The NBA has held its draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for over a decade, while MLB bounces around draft depending on the All-Star Game’s location.

The NHL Draft’s one-year marriage with the Sphere serves as the perfect send-off before the event becomes “decentralized” next season, with teams picking from their home markets.
