Where to watch Welcome to Wrexham: Streaming Ryan Reynolds series on Welsh club

Welsh football club Wrexham AFC has seen its global popularity skyrocket in recent years.

Following the club’s acquisition by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham has been a global sensation despite playing deep down the English football tier.

A large part of Wrexham’s popularity can be traced to the streaming documentary Welcome to Wrexham, which has gripped fans and created a whole new supporter base for the Welsh club. Despite being one of the oldest football clubs in Europe, their visibility has scaled new heights in just the last few years.

With new fans flocking to the supporter base every game, Welcome to Wrexham has been a window into the everyday life of the football players at the club which was gunning for promotion back to the Football League.

Where to stream Welcome to Wrexham around the world

Welcome to Wrexham streams on Disney+ in the UK, and on FX-on-Hulu in the United States. Season 1 sent out to the world in August of 2022.

The documentary follows Reynolds and McElhenney’s unlikely move for Wrexham, a non-league club based at a stadium that hosted Wales internationals as long ago as the 1870s and has a capacity of under 11,000.

Wrexham are a modest club with a charming story and a passionate fanbase. Based in Wales, they have never been beyond the second tier of English football.

Welcome to Wrexham Season 1

Released in August 2022, the first season of Welcome to Wrexham detailed the entire 2021/22 season for Wrexham AFC. The club chased promotion to the Football League, but fell just short of the ultimate goal.

The Dragons had to be saved from going out of existence in 2011 and have not been in the league since they were relegated from the fourth tier three years earlier.

Reynolds and McElhenney, as the documentary shows, have had a predictably bumpy ride trying to steer a club far removed from the glamour of the Premier League.

Relaying the pitch at Wrexham’s ancient Racecourse Ground proved an expensive and complex challenge, and there was a painful end to the 2021/22 season when the team failed in the playoffs after finishing second in the National League table in their quest to regain their league status.

The arrival of celebrity owners has raised Wrexham’s profile around the world. Now millions of potential new fans are able to watch how it happened.

When is Welcome to Wrexham Season 2 released?

With the first season of Welcome to Wrexham on Disney+ proving a massive hit, fans are clamoring to know when the next season will be released. Season 2 will launch on September 12, 2023

Season 1 of the show incorporates the takeover of the side in September 2020 and the ensuing year-and-a-half as the club competed in National League action, falling just short of a promotion spot with gut-wrenching defeat to Grimsby Town in the playoffs.

Season 2 will be able to strike a more triumphant tone as Wrexham emerged from their near-miss to prevail in a heavyweight title tussle with Notts County that sealed a return to the Football League for the first time since 2008.
