Heavyweight contenders being dumped out early, with others staying in the competition by the skin of their teeth.
Hosts Ivory Coast are just about still in situ, having knocked out holders Senegal in the last 16 on penalties. Egypt suffered the same fate against DR Congo.
Nigeria are many people’s tip to march all the way to glory in Abidjan on February 11, but it’s also been a tournament to celebrate upset successes, with Cape Verde into the quarterfinals for the first time their history.
Here’s a rundown of the teams knocked out of AFCON 2023 so far and information on when the final stages will take place.

Teams out of the African Cup of Nations: Full list of teams eliminated at AFCON 2023
The 24-team format meant an initial round-robin phase of six groups of four. The top two in each section qualified automatically, with the best four third-place teams making up the last 16.
From that point on, the tournament is a straight knockout competition, with 30 minutes of extra time and a penalty shootout if necessary after any game that is level at full-time.
