Worst-case scenario for New York Giants in 2025 centers on Jaxson Dart

Most New York Giants fans would agree that at some point in the 2025 NFL season, they’d like to see rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart make his pro debut.

Sure, if Russell Wilson keeps the 25th overall pick on the bench, it probably means Big Blue is winning some games and Wilson is playing well.

But the reality is that Wilson is nothing more than a bridge to Dart, who will be the unquestioned Giants starting quarterback in 2026, barring an epic meltdown or unfortunate injury.

Unfortunately, Dart, making his pro debut early in 2025, won’t be greeted with as much national excitement. In fact, it’s that exact outcome that was dubbed the New York Giants’ worst-case scenario on offense for the upcoming NFL season.

“So, while it would be ideal for Dart to see action by the end of the season, it would be ideal for Wilson to play well enough that Daboll has time to get Dart acclimated,” Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine wrote. “If he’s forced into the lineup early, his confidence could take a hit while Malik Nabers grows frustrated and the Giants are again one of the worst offenses in the league.”

New York Giants shouldn’t hesitate to start QB Jaxson Dart

I get it; rushing a rookie quarterback into the starting lineup before he’s ready is risky business. But if the Giants wait too long to insert Dart as QB1, they will prevent the front office — whether it’s the one in place right now or the one that takes over in 2026 after another losing season — from having an invaluable period to evaluate Dart’s long-term outlook in New York.

While it would be a surprise for the Giants to dip back into the first-round quarterback market in the 2026 NFL draft, the investment in Jaxson Dart isn’t that steep. Sure, they spent the No. 25 overall pick on him, but they didn’t sacrifice their 2026 first-rounder to trade up. Translation? They could still be in a position to draft a high-first-round QB prospect as long as they have a strong enough opinion on Dart’s projection.

They’ll only get there if he plays. And plays a lot.

So, yeah, perhaps an early debut from Dart means the New York Giants’ season went off the rails. But with expectations reasonably low already, the 2025 season will be a big win if Big Blue at least knows what kind of quarterback Dart can be by the end of the year.
